Pray First. Take the Next Step.

You don’t need the whole plan before you bring your next decision to God.

Remember where you started. Trust God with what’s next. This is the journey of the session — and the invitation for every woman in the room.

    My Next Faithful Step

A quiet, guided reflection. Bring your decision to God, and write your one faithful next step.

    Build My Reflection

    Remember Where You Started

Sometimes looking back reminds us of God’s faithfulness in ways we couldn’t recognise at the time.

Before we look ahead to what’s next, we remember where we’ve come from. The small beginnings God carried us through. The seasons we didn’t understand then but can see clearly now. The moments where His guidance showed up — even when we weren’t looking for it.

“Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness.” — Deuteronomy 8:2

    The Heart of It

Sometimes we want God to give us the whole plan before we move.

But prayer isn’t simply a way to get answers. It’s how we bring our desires, fears, motives and decisions before God.

And sometimes what changes first isn’t the situation. It’s our heart, our perspective, and how we approach the next step.

This is the progression we’ll sit with together:

    Remember

    Pray

    Discern

    Take one step

    Scripture

Our main Scripture for this session is Philippians 4:6–7.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

    — Philippians 4:6–7

Notice what the passage promises. It’s not an immediate answer to every decision. It’s God’s peace guarding our hearts and minds. That’s an important distinction. Sometimes we receive clarity. Sometimes we receive peace before we receive the answer.

Our second Scripture is James 1:5 — if any of us lacks wisdom, we can ask God, “who gives generously to all without finding fault.” We can bring our questions and trust Him for wisdom.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” — James 1:5

    Sarah’s Reflection

I want to share something I’m still learning myself.

For a while, I’ve found myself coming back to the same questions. What am I supposed to be doing? Why do I keep finding myself confused about what I want to build next?

And I had this moment where I felt God challenging me with something so simple. Have you actually prayed about it?

I’m someone who naturally tries to figure things out. I’ll research, build, plan, explore different options and work through every possible scenario. But I realised I was sometimes spending more time trying to work out the answer than bringing the question before God.

This is also the story behind Oriai. There were doors I tried to close, and doors I walked through, that made me stop and ask whether I was making decisions prayerfully or simply reacting to what was happening. I don’t believe every door that opens is automatically from God. But that experience taught me to slow down and seek Him first.

I’m not standing here telling you I’ve worked it all out. What I’m learning is that I don’t need to work everything out before I pray. I can pray first, seek wisdom, and faithfully take the next step without needing to control the whole outcome.

That’s the moment I’d want every woman to take home today.

    Sow & Share

Two questions to reflect on or discuss together:

    Question 1

Can you remember a time you didn’t know what to do next, but looking back you can see how God guided you through that season?

    Question 2

Is there a decision or opportunity you’re facing now where you need to slow down and seek God rather than keep trying to figure it out?

    My Next Faithful Step

Pray first. Take the next step.

No elaborate worksheets or extra preparation. Take five quiet minutes to actually pray before you write. Then bring your decision before God and identify your one faithful next step.

    The framework is simple:

    1. 1.What am I bringing to God?
    2. 2.What am I praying for?
    3. 3.What is one faithful next step?

Private reflection. You can copy it to your notes. Sharing is optional.

    My Next Faithful Step

Pray first. Take the next step.

You don’t need the whole plan before you pray. Take a few quiet minutes to bring your next decision before God — and write your one faithful next step.

Your answers stay on your device. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.

    Prayer & Praise

    Share.

Bring one request or one praise to God — voluntarily. Notice what weighs on your heart, and what you’re grateful for.

    Pray.

Hold the next step you wrote before God. Pray specifically — for wisdom, for courage to move, and for peace to trust Him with what you cannot yet see.

    A Prayer to Close

Lord, thank You that we don’t have to work everything out before we come to You. Thank You for Your peace that guards our hearts and minds when we bring our requests before You.

Give us wisdom for the decisions in front of us. Help us remember where You’ve already brought us, and trust You with what’s next. Teach us to pray first — not just when we’ve exhausted every other option.

May we be women who seek You, grow in wisdom, and faithfully take the next step You put in front of us.

    Amen.

    Before You Leave

    Three things to remember.

    Remember where you started.

Sometimes looking back reminds us of God’s faithfulness in ways we couldn’t recognise at the time.

    Pray before you decide.

Not just when you’ve exhausted every other option.

    Take the next faithful step.

You don’t need to control the whole journey to be faithful with what’s in front of you.

And if you’re still waiting for clarity, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Keep seeking God, keep growing in wisdom, and trust Him with what you cannot yet see.

    Pray first.

    Take the next step.

    Remember where you started.

    Trust God with what’s next.

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin.” — Zechariah 4:10

    My Next Faithful Step

Take a quiet moment. Bring your next decision to God before you bring it to anyone else.

Your reflections stay private on your device.
