Can a Christian woman be ambitious?
What if the question isn’t whether we’re allowed to dream big — but whether our ambition has been surrendered to God?
Holy ambition isn’t about building the biggest thing possible. It’s about faithfully stewarding whatever God has placed in our hands.

The Question Around the Table
“Do you think ambition is a good thing?”
What comes to mind when you hear:
- Ambitious woman.
- Ambitious Christian woman.
- Ambitious Christian businesswoman.
Before reading further, pause for a moment.
What feelings or assumptions does the word “ambition” bring up for you? You don’t need to answer aloud. This is simply a moment of reflection.
Ambition Under God
Scripture doesn’t call us to half-hearted work. There is room for diligence. Excellence. Effort. Creativity. Leadership. Building.
But Scripture changes who our work ultimately serves. Our work does not have to be driven by applause, numbers, recognition, status or our own need to prove ourselves.
“The opposite of unhealthy ambition isn’t necessarily no ambition. It can be surrendered ambition.”
Three Ways We Can Carry Ambition
Striving
“I have to make this happen.”
I push, control, fix and carry because I fear that if I don’t keep everything moving, it might fall apart.
Passivity
“God will handle it, so I don’t need to act.”
Surrender is not an excuse to avoid responsibility, courage or faithful action.
Stewardship
“I will faithfully do what is mine to do and trust God with what isn’t.”
I steward my part. I release the outcome.

Opportunity or Assignment?
Not every good opportunity is your assignment.
An open door isn’t automatically an instruction to walk through it. A closed door doesn’t automatically tell us why it closed. A difficult road may require perseverance — or wisdom may tell us to stop.
There isn’t always a simple formula. That’s why Christian leadership requires discernment.
These questions aren’t a formula for discovering God’s will. They are prompts to help you slow down, pray and discern.

2. Where might you be striving for an outcome instead of stewarding your part?
3. How do you personally discern between an opportunity and an assignment?

A Prayer
Father, thank You for everything You have entrusted to me. Give me courage to move when I should move, wisdom to wait when I need to wait, and humility when my motives need refining.
Help me work faithfully without making outcomes my identity. Show me what is mine to steward and give me peace to release what isn’t mine to carry.
May what I build honour You and serve others well.
Amen.
